I have been prodded by Heather Duncan (c/o 89) to spark some convo in here. At our U of I alumni site, we have been chatting away about Kenwood, and she said we shouldn't leave our home dry and boring....so lets jump it off!
Mr. Rokos--my division teacher (he was a math teacher as well). We had a great bond, and he even came to my wedding in 1994. Though Mrs. Horace, (in the counseling office) wasn't a teacher, she was definitely memorable. She is gone but not forgotten.
LOL! It has been enjoyable reading everyone's comments thus far...
My favorite teachers were Ms. Collins with her little red convertible benz who was also my division teacher and Ms. Allie.
I liked gym and they treated me well even if they seemed a little on the masculine side. Those were easy "A"s.
Does anyone remember ballroom dancing and playing golf in the hallway?
I liked and respected Ms. Woods because she would always dress to the nines and she was a mortician with her own business. Ms. Woods could be quite strict if you got on her bad side. She saw me and called out to me in Jewels one day a couple years ago. She was still a fashion diva.
After awhile I got accustomed to Ms. 'L' Brown' who taught senior math and she was pretty cool with me. I used to come back from college to visit her.
I loved English with Mr. Osada who introduced us to such adult reading such as Canterbury Tales and the Catcher in The Rye among other things. He was always smiling from what I can remember.
Ms. Stein & Ms. Bean were cool with me. I remember having a mini fight in Ms. Bean's class with Steve Pamon (which Ms. Bean said was result of my classmates' crush on me, ahem...he can confirm or deny that ;->) and then I showed up late for Ms. Wood's biology class, ahhh the memories :-)
Ollie T. Boddie was a fun teacher and I just remember being motivated by him to do well in art. Mrs. Huizenga was a favorite because we cooked and ate in her class as part of our "French immersion experience".
I did have a problem with two teachers whom I believe may have had racist tendencies and that was Robert Nesbitt and Mr. Damianedes probably because they weren't used some little black girl challenging their perspectives of World & U.S history, politics and government...yeah just consider me Huey P's protege'!
I liked Mr. Gilbert who taught English. I was so sorry to hear that he passed away. I also liked Mr. Lilly my homeroom teacher-- he called up "superstars" and that has always stuck with me. I liked Ms. Levinson and Ms. Harper-- they were great.
Mr Spaulding was one of my favs, he taught English, he was mad cool. We went thru Shakespeare material and he would add a slang and hip hop flava to alot of that stuff, it made the class one of the most memorable
